Six-point six; Fashion show nurtures the dreams of fashion stakeholders

Thousands of young people are relying on the Fashion industry to earn a livelihood in Bamenda. Not only has it been difficult for these young people to thrive because of the current crisis, but it has also been difficult for them to adapt to the growing trends and innovations in the fashion industry and the world at large.

Six-point six is that platform that has given young fashion designers, models, and other stakeholders the opportunity to showcase their talents while joining their voices in the ongoing trending conversation on Sustainable Development.

A pre-event discussion took place on Saturday 29th of February at Alliance Francais with some staff of the United Nations – office of the resident coordinator, models, artists, and civil society members. This discussion-based on UN75 was very engaging as young people shared the contributions to the conversation in the future we want. They all appreciated the UN for taking interest in Arts as a means of communicating the SDGs and used the platform to call on UNESCO to amplify their efforts in protecting and promoting different forms of Artistic expressions especially in the ongoing crisis

With the Sustainable Development Goals being one of the main priority areas for REGARTLESS formerly known as Sysy House of Fame, the SDGs were mainstreamed as the focal point for this edition of 6.6. 12 Models, 4 fashion designers, about 400 spectators, but one main goal – Redefining the role of fashion in our community, shifting from entertainment to an effective tool for socio-economic development.

During the 6.6 fashion show, they were a string of performances to mourn the mass murders that are happening in the North West and southwest regions of Cameroon. A performance by both models and children was staged in remembrance of children killed in Ngarbu. This soul searching performance that ran down tears from many also served as advocacy by the models for the return to Peace. REGARTLESS formerly known as Sysy House of Fame reiterated her stance against the violence perpetrated in the anglophone regions through poetry and runway choreography.

The 6.6 fashion did not only showcase top-notch fashion trends from this part of the region but also served as a platform for advocacy.
