After the announcement of the Tour of shadow theatre for Peace by SHF and United Nations Cameroon, there has been a lot of excitement as people looked forward to watching this unique performance. The population of Bamenda hit by an armed conflict turned out heavily to watch this performance on the 09 November 2019 for the second time. Based on the true-life experiences of women during armed conflicts, this unique performance was aimed at advocating for Peace throughout the armed conflict regions. It should be noted that the UN took interest in this performance which spoke directly to the current situation and offered a tour to other regions in Cameroon so as to reach out to people to teach Peace through Arts.
Created and Directed by Njobati Sylvie Vernyuy, founder and Creative/Artistic Director of REGARTLESS formerly known as Sysy House of Fame, the play in encompassed other forms of Arts such as live music, Spoken words, and Painting.
As Usual, this performance started with an SDG Village that saw young Cameroonians get together to learn about sustainable development goals through Games, activities, and exercises.
During the performances, there was a display of high levels of creativity in the arts and commitment to the struggle for the return of Peace. The actresses of this performance who are all girls told their real-life stories during this armed conflict with the production process acting as psychosocial support.
The Feedback was overwhelming as UN staff present acknowledged that the performance has given them new insights on tackling GBV and increase how they value Arts. Audiences were so touched with the way the messages were conveyed especially the memorial space that was set in memory of everyone who has lost someone in the on-going armed conflict.
With hundreds of people finding closure from the performance, the message was clear “Teach Peace”
