Position: Communications & Public Relations Officer

Location: Yaounde

Reports to: Director General

regARTless, formerly known as REGARTLESS formerly known as Sysy House of Fame is an organization that contributes to Sustainable Development by harnessing the potential of Arts, Culture, and sports. We are a people-centered organization that believes in using innovative and creative approaches to global issues. We support people to be at the center of change while building a prosperous and peaceful world. We inspire people to dare to create the change they want. To do this, we use different forms of artistic expression to enhance the 16 Sustainable Development Goals, thus promoting various forms of Artistic expression, training and Development becomes a key part of our work.

For the past 5 years, we have been able to create footprints in the Arts and Culture industry and also in the development sector. We have registered remarkable success and have created a strong partnership with both local and international organizations. We are looking to improve how we show the work we do to the world and how we engage with our audiences and different stakeholders by improving the quality, quantity, and channels of distribution of our work. Our stakeholders include donors, beneficiaries, supporters, partners, and well-wishers. Thus Social media, Media, and Audiovisual representation become an integral part of our 2024 – 2029 strategy.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications (Officer) is an integral member of regARTless’ Team. The Officer will use all forms of media and communications to build, maintain, and manage awareness of regARTless’s work. The Officer will be expected to help create and communicate key messages to defined target audiences to establish and maintain goodwill for regARTless.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

  • Develop effective communications strategies to increase the visibility of regARTless
  • In charge of the creation, formatting, and distribution of regular email newsletters and email updates, reports, fact sheets etc
  • Writing web articles and reports for our platforms and other external platforms
  • Support online fundraising campaigns, event planning, and management particularly related to different programmes
  • Develop concepts and design graphics for different purposes
  • Organise and manage events to support branding, be a photographer/videographer and capture stories.
  • Improve regARTless’ branding across multiple platforms
  • Regularly solicit stories, and notable developments or achievements to the news media. Manage messaging to external parties, including talking points, media kits, and media training for staff.
  • Support media relations, public engagement, and marketing initiatives such as online advertising, speakers bureau, spokesperson research, and media outreach.
  • Assist with the development of promotional materials, including Annual Reports, monthly newsletters, press kits and other program-related collateral.

Social Media

  • Work to increase regARTlesss’ online presence through planning, creating and curating high-quality, high-impact content tailored to our channels and audiences.
  • Creating new, innovative and talk-worthy content to drive awareness and engagement.
  • Oversee social media platforms, preparation of social media content, and assessment of key metrics regarding the work we do.
  • Produce online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action
  • Develop and implement a strategic social media/marketing/communications plan to advance regARTless’ brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences.
  • Develop and implement integrated social media strategy to achieve goals including: traffic generation, donor base growth, community activation, positive sentiment, exposure, etc.
  • Coordinate with other departments to lead execution of integrated social media fundraising campaigns
  • Recommend new social media tools, sites, and applications as part of the social media mix
  • Be ahead of all the emerging social and mobile trends.

Media & Events

  • Manage media relations, including building relationships with media contacts, building regARTless media list, and proactively securing media opportunities regarding our work.
  • Draft press releases and op-eds, in collaboration with other colleagues. 
  • Work with individual journalists to build relationships, pitch stories, and offer quotes.
  • Support the development and hosting of online events, which highlight regARTless’ programs and advocacy positioning, ensuring key decision makers and stakeholders are present.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA in communications, Film making journalism, international relations or other related field
  • Five years of relevant work experience with demonstrated skills in communications and public relations, preferably with an International NGO
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous media relations experience and proven ability to cultivate relationships with international regional and national press
  • Previous experience in event coordination or management
  • Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Premier Pro, Lightroom, InDesign, and/or Illustrator a plus
