For the past 4 years, we have been able to create footprints in the Arts and Culture industry and also in the development sector. We have registered remarkable success and have created a strong partnership with both local and international organisations. We are looking to improve our programmes development, management and reporting for our Women in Film project.

Job Profile

As a Programmes Officer for the Women in Film project, you will be responsible for overseeing, implementing and managing  the various aspects of the project with a focus on promoting gender equality and empowering women to take up more technical roles in the film industry.

Job Summary 

 As a Programmes Officer for the Women in Film Project, you will play a crucial role in supporting and implementing various initiatives and activities aimed at promoting and empowering women in the film industry. You will work closely with the project team to develop, source funding, manage, and evaluate programs that provide resources, opportunities, and advocacy for women in the film sector. Your responsibilities will include coordinating events, managing partnerships, conducting research, and supporting the project’s overall mission to foster gender equality and diversity in the film industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

General :

  • Identify,develop project proposals/grants documents and contact potential grantees for funding.
  • Represent organisation in industry conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Manage and monitor grants and prepare funding reports.
  • Provide guidance and maintain frequent communications with program partners.
  • Analyse and troubleshoot program challenges.
  • Develop best practices to improve overall program performance
  • Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities for programs.
  • Identify and contact new program partners for business expansion.
  • Plan and execute program activities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct program reviews and prepare reports for management.
  • Prepare meeting agenda, organise meetings and distribute minutes.

Specific: 

Project Planning: Collaborating with the project team to develop a comprehensive proposal for funding, project plan, including goals, objectives, timelines, and deliverables. Identifying areas in the industry where women are underrepresented or disadvantaged and create specific initiatives and activities to address these gaps and promote  the advancement of women in film.

Program Implementation: Executing the project plan by coordinating and organising various activities and initiatives. This may involve organising workshops, seminars, film screenings, panel discussions, and networking events specifically designed for women and key decision makers to promote gender equality  in the film industry.Creating educational and training programmes that focus on the particular challenges facing women in film, such as gender bias and inappropriate representation, workplace harassment. 

Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging and building relationships with relevant stakeholders, including women filmmakers, directors, producers, industry professionals, film schools, organisations, and community partners. Collaborating with these stakeholders to create awareness and  foster a supportive and inclusive environment for women in film.

Research and Writing:

Conduct research and gather data on industry trends, challenges, and opportunities for women in film, and provide recommendations for program improvements, while keeping up to date with industry developments and trends.

Program Promotion and Outreach: Developing,implementing and providing  guidelines and support to women who are seeking to advance their careers in film, such as mentoring and networking.Maintaining specialised knowledge of trends and issues related to gender and diversity in film.

Partnership Development: Identifying and establishing partnerships with organisations, sponsors, stakeholders and funders that align with the project’s goals. Cultivating relationships with these partners to secure resources, financial support, and collaboration opportunities to ensure programmes and initiative are effectively reaching target audience.

Program Evaluation: Developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of the project’s initiatives. Collecting and analysing data, soliciting feedback from participants, and using insights to refine and enhance program activities and outcomes.

Budget Management: Managing the project budget, including financial planning, tracking expenditures, and ensuring adherence to allocated resources. Collaborating with the finance team to monitor financial performance and prepare regular reports.

Capacity Building: Identifying training and skills development opportunities for women in the film industry. Collaborating with industry professionals and experts to deliver educational programs and workshops that enhance the knowledge and capabilities of participants. Applying a gender lens to all aspects of programming, including promotion, selection of participants, and evaluation.

Advocacy and Policy Influence: Advocating for gender equality and promoting policy changes that support women in the film industry. Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to raise awareness about the challenges faced by women in the field and advocate for equitable opportunities and representation.

Reporting and Documentation: Creating regular reports and documentation to provide updates on project progress, achievements, and challenges. Compiling data and evidence to support the project’s impact and generate insights for future initiatives.

Qualifications:

A degree in film studies, media, public relations, Programmes/ project management  or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

 A minimum of 4 years and above of experience in project management, preferably in the film industry or related fields.

Experience working with UN organisations/ agencies, governmental offices, and international organisations and local organisations.

Demonstrated knowledge of the film industry, including key players, trends, and issues affecting women in film.

Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal capabilities, with an ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively.

Experience working with diverse groups and an understanding of intersectional feminism.

 Experience in events coordination and project management.

Strong attention to detail, with an ability to work independently, prioritise multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines.

Proficient in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, Canva etc) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling web-based management systems.

Language: 

Fluency in English and French
