The Return of Ngonnso

In so-called “punitive expeditions”, Germans took violent action against the population of Cameroon. During this time, a colonial officer brought the Ngonnso statue to Berlin, which is now in the Humboldt Forum. A Cameroonian activist – Sylvie Njobati, is fighting for her return.

Sylvie Njobati: "These objects belong to us by right"

Sylvie Njobati has multiplied the round trips between Cameroon and Germany to campaign for the return of the Ngonnso statue of the Nso people, based in the northwest of Cameroon.
Her last visit to Berlin to incite official negotiations on restitution had a positive result.
The Ngonnso statue, which has been in Germany for 120 years and is currently on display at the Humboldt Forum in the city of Berlin, is soon to be returned to the Nso people in Cameroon who currently only have a replica.

Royal delegation from Cameroon demands the return of objects in the Linden Museum in Stuttgart

After an official return application was submitted to the state of Baden-Württemberg in August, the king of the Nso people, the Fon of Nso, visited the Stuttgart Ethnological Museum. Several objects belonging to the Linden Museum collection appear to have belonged to the Nso people. The Fon is hoping for a return as early as February next year.
